Allergies & Sinus Trouble

Do you wake up with a stuffy head and mucus in your throat or nose?  Do you feel as if you always have a cold or that your last cold never left you?  Do you have a chronic "postnasal drip?"  You may be suffering from sinusitis.  Your sinuses are eight spaces in the bones of your forehead, cheek and temples.   Mucus is a sticky, elastic, unappealing gel that is nothing less than one of the greatest protections that we have against infection and poisoning.  Your nose, throat, and sinuses are lined with mucus to help ensure that your air is moist, warm and free from dust, dirt and pollutants; without this filtering gel your lungs and kidneys, and even blood, could fill with toxins.  If you suffer from sinusitis, rhinitis or other respiratory problems you should come in for a visit.  Spinal care can help your body function better, improve your resistance to disease and enhance your well-being.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a disease of the whole body (a systemic disease) most dramatically affecting the joints.  The word "arthritis" may include more than 100 conditions, many that were formerly known as "rheumatism."  For over a century arthritic patients have benefited from chiropractic care.  Chiropractic care has even reversed osteoarthritis - something previously considered impossible.  And yet chiropractic is not an arthritis treatment.  It is a system of health care that improves the function of your entire body by removing or releasing blockages from your spine called vertebral subluxations.  Vertebral subluxations weaken your nervous and immune systems, weakening your body.  This can set the stage for sicknesses and diseases of all kinds ... arthritis included.  Chiropractic has even reversed osteoarthritis ... something previously considered impossible.

Bed-Wetting

It is expected that infants have no bladder control at night, but it generally becomes a problem when the child over age 5 has bladder control during the day but urinates in his/her bed while asleep.  Age 5 is chosen because children have control over urination, both night and day by that age.  About 15% of 5 year olds wet their beds, as do 7% of 8-year olds and 3% of 12-year olds.  By age 18 it is almost nonexistent for girls and a problem for only 1% of boys.  It disappears in about 15% of children each year.  So what can be done to help these children?  What is the chiropractic approach?  For decades parents have told their chiropractors that soon after their child's spine was adjusted their bed-wetting stopped or improved.  The chiropractic approach to health care is quite different from any other approach.  It is a full body approach - ensuring that your child's spine is healthy; that there is no nerve stress or spinal blockage to the internal organs, including the bladder; and to the brain and spinal nerves in general.  This benefits your child's overall health, no matter what condition they may have.

Blood Pressure

At this moment you have blood pressure.  But don't worry ... everyone does.  You need it to send your blood through your miles and miles of blood vessels bringing oxygen and nutrition throughout your body.  Every time your heart beats it pumps blood through your arteries and the force of this "push" is called blood pressure.  There is no "just right" blood pressure; 120 over 80 is just average.  Like the idle of a car, some people run a little high, others a little low.  Blood pressure also fluctuates based on time of day, exercise, age, sex, emotional makeup, drug and alcohol use, emotional stress and many other factors.  When blood pressure is abnormally low, it's called hypotension and when it is abnormally high, it's called hypertension.  A possible role of high blood pressure for some people may be that it is a defense against damage to your brain and spinal cord caused by an unbalanced spinal column and body structure.  An elecated blood pressure may help protect your brain and spinal cord from compression due to spine and structural stress.  However your body cannot keep this form of "protection" around indefinitely.  Eventually the elevated blood pressure can cause serious health problems so the underlying cause should be addressed.  Your chiropractor can perform spinal adjustments to correct veterbral subluxations or spinal nerve stress which upset body balance and nerve health.

Chiropractic journals have often described the blood pressure normalizing effects that gentle, painless chiropractic spinal adjustments have on individuals.

Your nerves help regulate your blood pressure.  Keep them free from stress.

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the occupational disease of the 21st century.  Do you have it?  You may if you have one or more of the following"  tingling and numbness in the hand, fingers and wrist; swelling of the fingers; dry palms; blanching (whitening upon pressure) of the hand; and pain so intense that it awakens you at night with the possibility of similar symptoms in the upper arm, elbow, shoulder or neck.  The drug-free chiropractic approach of releasing nerve and spine stress by freeing your body of vertebral subluxations has been a blessing to millions afflicted with this condition.

Children's Health

Most parents know how important annual checkups of their children's teeth are, but few realize that spinal checkups are just as vital to their child's health and development. Spinal problems are often missed, and can quickly develop into serious problems as your child grows. Spinal problems develop even in young children from injuries such as falls, that puts stress on the developing spinal structure. This stress often causes an imbalance in the spinal structure affecting many vital nerves in the child's young bodies.

Although many injuries show no lingering symptoms at first, back pain, as well as other symptoms like headaches, even possibly stomachaches, or hyperactivity can develop, often with unexplained causes. Scoliosis, the abnormal curvature of the spine, is another concern in the development of children. All spines curve front to back. With scoliosis, the affected spine curves from side to side and twists, throwing the body out of alignment. This condition often appears during the teenage years, but can also be found in young children. Although scoliosis is often found to be a hereditary condition, the causes of most cases are unknown. In 1988, the National Scoliosis Foundation, Inc. showed figures that "one in every 10 persons has scoliosis. " Its conclusion states that a 30 second screening of 10 to 14-year olds can make a difference.. If left uncorrected in a growing child, scoliosis can bring on mild to severe pain, physical deformity, and even dangerous heart and lung problems. Usually, the first sign that scoliosis may be present is when clothes do not fit properly. There are some simple checks for scoliosis that can be done at home. While standing, a child should bend forward, keeping his or her head level. Examine the straightness of the child's spine. Also, while standing, a child's shoulders should form an imaginary horizontal line across the top of the shoulders. Scoliosis as well as other spinal problems are serious and your child should be examined annually by a trained professional. Chiropractors are well trained in detecting scoliosis as well as other spinal problems. To schedule an examination, contact our office.

Headaches& Migraines ...

The ache in headache does not come from your brain - your brain cannot feel pain.  During brain surgery a patient is often wide awake feeling nothing, even talking to the surgeons and nurses while his/her brain is being operated on (a local anesthetic numbs the scalp).  So what puts the "ache" in headache?  It's the non-brain structures:  blood vessels, membranes and cranial nerves in the brain and skull.  When these structures are stretched, compressed, irritated, inflamed or infected, headaches often result.

The cause of migraines has been a mystery.  But new research reveals sufferers have abnormal nerve firings in the brain and spinal cord.  Anyone suffering from headaches of any type would do well to see us for a visit to ensure that your spine is free of the vertebral subluxation complex.  If there are subluxations in the spine, no amount of drugs will correct it - a chiropractic spinal adjustment is essential.

Lower Back Pain

Low back pain is very, very common.  About 85% of the population will experience disabling low back pain at least once during their lives. Chiropractors have helped millions of people with low back problems, often saving them from pain, disability, drugs and surgery.  The chiropractor's purpose is to gently and painlessly rebalance and realign your spine to relieve pressure on your nerves, discs and muscles.  Chiropractors have a special term for an area of your spine that is not properly aligned and is causing nerve stress:  a vertebral subluxation.

Neck Problems ...

Your neck is jam-packed with nerves, glands, tubes, blood, and lymph vessels, and 48 different joints, plus your brain stem, spinal cord, spinal column, muscles, ligaments, tendons, fluids, meninges, and more!  It also balances your heavy head!!  Other neck problems can be caused by poor posture, work habits, and even birth trauma.  Neck problems and whiplash can cause headaches, numbness, coldness, or "pins-and-needles" in the face, chest, arms, wrists, or hands.  They can also result in anxiety, insomnia, low back and neck pain, ear ringing, dizziness, hearing loss, eye pain, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, and other symptoms.

"Pinched" Nerves ...

Being "pinched" hurts, but to pinch a nerve? Ouch!  That must feel like a severe, sharp, intense pain - and it often does.  "Pinched" nerves could happen nearly anywhere and affect nerves that go into your arms, fingers, wrists, neck, head, back, shoulders, head legs, muscles and internal organs.  "Pinched" nerves can affect your health, posture, vitality resistance to disease, even your emotional health.  "Pinched" nerves can make your life miserable.

Do nerves really get "pinched"?  Actual pinching is quite rare.  What is much more common is what chiropractors call the vertebral subluxation complex or subluxations.  Other terms for this are nerve impingement, nerve irritation, nerve lesion, spinal stress and meningeal tension.

Stress

Avoid Stress???  Impossible!  To be alive is to be under stress.  But stress is not even necessarily bad for you.  Any emotion, any activity causes stress.  The same stress which makes one person sick can be an invigorating experience for another.  Chronic stress means you never completely relax and, because of the energy drain, your body and mind become fatigued.  You are then more susceptible to cols, infection, ulcers, digestive troubles, high blood pressure, asthma, arthritis, heart disease and premature aging.  Chiropractors are specially trained to free you from a severe, destructive, chronic stress:  the vertebral subluxation complex.  A subluxation is a very common, often painless distortion in your body that affects your nerves and spine, stressing you physically and emotionally.
